Let’s talk about the Trump family Christmas card drama of 2017. You know the one I’m talking about—Donald Trump, Melania Trump, Donald Trump Jr., Ivanka Trump, Eric Trump, Tiffany Trump… and then there’s little Barron Trump. Where’s Barron, you ask? Well, he wasn’t exactly in the picture this time around, and folks on social media couldn’t help but notice. Here’s the scoop.
On Monday, December 11, the Republican Party dropped a bombshell on Twitter—a Christmas card featuring the Trump family. Or at least most of them. The card featured President Donald Trump and First Lady Melania Trump, along with their adult children. But guess who wasn’t there? That’s right, Barron Trump, the youngest member of the First Family. The tweet read, “Have you signed the First Family’s Christmas card yet?” Fans quickly noticed the absence of the 11-year-old and started chiming in with their thoughts.
Social media reactions were swift and varied. Some users expressed disappointment that Barron wasn’t included. One follower commented, “I’d love to see Barron in the first family Christmas card.” Another chimed in, “Ummm, I believe the First Family Christmas card should include Barron, no?” And of course, there was a bit of sarcasm sprinkled in. A witty fan quipped, “So nice of them to include Barron in the family Christmas card.”

While some might think it’s odd, there’s actually a good reason Barron wasn’t in the photo. Many believe the family chose to keep him out of the spotlight to protect his privacy. After all, growing up in the public eye isn’t easy. Back in January, the White House issued a statement asking for privacy for the young boy following some unfortunate online bullying after the inauguration. The statement from the Office of the Press Secretary emphasized, “It is a longstanding tradition that the children of Presidents are afforded the opportunity to grow up outside of the political spotlight.” The White House fully expects this tradition to continue and appreciates everyone’s cooperation in this matter.
Throughout the election, Barron rarely attended campaign events with his parents. In fact, he made headlines when photos of him falling asleep during the night Donald won the presidency surfaced on the internet. It’s clear the family wants to shield him from the chaos that comes with being part of the First Family.
Even Chelsea Clinton, whose mother lost to Donald in the previous election, understands the importance of protecting children from the public eye. In September, she tweeted, “It’s high time the media and everyone leave Barron Trump alone and let him have the private childhood he deserves.” She later shared, “Barron Trump deserves the chance every child does—to be a kid. Standing up for every kid also means opposing @POTUS policies that hurt kids.” It’s refreshing to see someone who knows what it’s like to be the child of a president advocate for Barron’s privacy.
Even though Barron didn’t make the card this year (though we’re sure he’ll be featured as he gets older!), we still want to send our best wishes to the entire Trump family this holiday season. Whether you’re a fan of the family or not, there’s no denying the importance of letting kids be kids, especially when they’re living in the White House. So here’s to Barron and his family having a happy and peaceful holiday!
