And that’s not all—she’s busy rehearsing her holiday stage musical, Hot Chocolate Nutcracker, and raising funds to tour her multimedia show, Freeze Frame…Stop the Madness. Alongside all this, she’s working with Shonda Rhimes and the Annenberg Foundation to give her Debbie Allen Dance Academy a permanent home. Talk about staying busy!
Now, at 67, Debbie Allen still hasn’t slowed down. She once famously produced the groundbreaking sitcom A Different World and worked alongside Steven Spielberg on Amistad. Despite her long list of accomplishments, she says, “One of the most important things I’ve ever done is being a mom.” That’s right, folks, this powerhouse attributes her success not only to her hard work but also to the joy her family brings her.

Here’s a sweet little story Debbie shared: “Last night was adorable. After my husband and I finished dinner, I was so tired. He joked, ‘That’s it! You’re not even changing clothes. We’re going straight to bed like this.’ It was such a fun moment to just cuddle up and pass out together. We slept so well!” Debbie adds with a laugh, “If I had to describe myself in one word, it would be energy. I’ve got it in spades!”
When it comes to her kids, Debbie can’t help but gush. She says, “One of the most important things I’ve ever done is bringing these wonderful human beings into the world. They’re both incredible in their own ways. Norman Jr. is not only a comedian but also a brilliant composer who wrote most of the music for Freeze Frame. And Vivian? She dances in the show and is my muse. Watching them grow and thrive fills me with so much pride.”
And don’t worry, Debbie Allen fans—this star isn’t dimming anytime soon. “When you’re aging, you’re living. I’m still learning and growing, and I truly love life. Even challenges are welcome because they give me something to wake up for. Every morning, I’m grateful to be alive!” she shared with a radiant smile.
