Let me tell you a story about Robin Roberts, the beloved face of Good Morning America, and her wife, Amber Laign. Robin's been opening up about their relationship lately, and it’s fascinating to hear how they’ve navigated life together, even when they’re miles apart.
Now, here’s the thing: Robin and Amber don’t live under the same roof, and they’re okay with that. During a heartfelt segment on Good Morning America in January, Robin, 64, explained their unique situation. “It’s not for everyone,” she said. “Amber and I live separately—not because we want to, but because of our demanding work schedules. The trust we share is incredible, and I can honestly say there are people from my past I wouldn’t have done this with.”
Robin calls a $2.5 million apartment in Manhattan her weekday home. Why? Because it’s just steps away from the Good Morning America studios, making her commute a breeze. But what about Amber? Well, the 50-year-old has her own space on the Upper West Side, about ten minutes away from Robin. It’s a setup that works for them, even if it means living apart.

But wait, there’s more! Robin also owns a stunning 0.92-acre mansion in Farmington, Connecticut. That’s where the couple legally tied the knot in 2023 after 18 years of dating. While Robin spends her weekdays in the city, she loves escaping to their country home when she can. In fact, the pandemic gave them a chance to strengthen their bond when they hunkered down together in Connecticut.
“We spent more time together this year than in the previous 15 years combined,” Robin told People in April 2021. “We’ve never been stronger! I remember packing up part of my dressing room here [in New York City] and heading home to Connecticut a year ago when the pandemic hit. I’m glad I packed a lot of patience.”
Robin and Amber’s love story began back in 2005 when they were set up on a blind date. For years, they kept their relationship private, but in 2013, Robin made headlines when she came out as a lesbian in a Facebook post. Since then, the couple has been an inspiring example of love and resilience.
Over the years, Robin and Amber have supported each other through some tough times. In February 2022, Robin shared an emotional Instagram video revealing that Amber had been diagnosed with breast cancer. As a breast cancer survivor herself, Robin was determined to be there for her partner during treatment.
“She and I have been together almost 17 years, helping each other through our challenges,” Robin said at the time. “Now it’s my turn to be there for her, just like she was there for me.”
Thankfully, Amber completed her radiation treatment in July 2022. A few months later, Robin announced that the couple planned to take their relationship to the next level with a beautiful wedding surrounded by loved ones.

“We’re getting married this year,” Robin shared in January 2023. “It’s something we’ve talked about for a while, but life got in the way. When Amber became ill, it made us realize how important it is to say yes to the next chapter.”
And their engagement? Well, it wasn’t your typical proposal. Robin revealed that they celebrated their decision to marry in their favorite Mexican spot, putting calamari rings on each other and saying, “Let’s go. Let’s do it.”
