Some friendships truly stand the test of time, and Jane Fonda and Lily Tomlin’s bond is one of them. The iconic duo appeared on TODAY on January 16, 2018, and when co-host Hoda Kotb asked them how long they’ve been friends, Jane Fonda, then 80, guessed about 50 years. But Lily Tomlin, who was 78 at the time, had a much more memorable way of remembering. "I think before your first facelift!" she joked hilariously. Check out the hilarious moment below!

Jane quickly tried to diffuse the situation with a laugh, saying, "Never mind, never mind. We don’t need to hear that." But she couldn’t resist poking fun at Lily, joking, "Who are you, Megyn Kelly?" She was clearly referencing an awkward moment earlier that year when the new TODAY host asked Jane about her plastic surgery instead of her new film, Our Souls at Night. Megyn had asked, “You’ve been an example to everyone in how to age beautifully and with strength and unapologetically. You admit you’ve had work done, which I think is to your credit. But you look amazing. I read that you said you’re not proud to admit you’ve had work done. Why not?” Ouch! Jane’s response? "We really want to talk about that now?" It was a cringeworthy moment, but Jane handled it with grace and humor.
Hoda and Savannah Guthrie couldn’t help but laugh along with Lily, proving that only a true friend can get away with such a bold comment. Lily’s quick wit and Jane’s good-natured response highlighted the strength of their friendship. It’s clear that these two have a special bond that allows them to joke around and support each other through thick and thin.
Recently, Jane opened up about a health scare during a BUILD Series event to promote the new season of Grace and Frankie. She appeared with a bandage covering her lower lip and explained, "I just want to explain the bandage. I just had a cancer removed from my lip. I thought it would heal in time for this event, but it’s fine. I don’t usually go around like this, but I wanted to make sure everyone knew the story."
The good news is that Jane's prognosis looks positive. "Yeah, they did [biopsy it.] I’m going to be fine, thanks," she reassured fans. It’s a testament to her resilience and courage, and it’s no surprise that she handled the situation with her usual grace and humor.
