The country music superstar recently showed just how much she cares by donating a generous $10,000 to an injured police officer she grew up with in Oklahoma. This incredible gesture was made on February 17 under her married name, Carrie Fisher, to the officer's GoFundMe campaign.

A Friend in Need

Life can throw unexpected curveballs, and that's exactly what happened to Checotah Assistant Police Chief Justin Durrett. On February 11, while heading to work, Justin was involved in a serious car accident. The crash left him with a broken neck, a bruised spine, and unfortunately, no sensation from the waist down. This is where Carrie stepped in, wanting to do what she could for someone from her hometown who she also shared church services with.

The Checotah Police Department shared the tragic news on their Facebook page on February 12. "As most of you are aware, Assistant Chief Justin Durrett was in a severe accident Sunday morning and has suffered some very serious injuries," the post read. "He will have a long road to recovery. Justin is a 13-year veteran of the Checotah Police Department and a loving father of two children. If you'd like to help, donations can be made at the First Family Credit Union in Checotah under Justin Durrett's name. All prayers for Justin and his family are deeply appreciated."

Generosity in Action

Thanks to Carrie's generous contribution, the GoFundMe campaign has surged past the halfway mark toward its $20,000 goal. As of now, they've raised $15,780, which will significantly assist Justin in covering his extensive medical expenses. This isn't the first time Carrie has faced adversity herself. The former American Idol winner previously suffered a fall that left her with facial injuries and a broken wrist, so she understands firsthand the challenges Justin is dealing with.
