Nicole Kidman Opens Up About Her Hair Journey And Offers Advice To Women Everywhere

We’ve all been there—making beauty decisions we later regret. But for Nicole Kidman, one choice stands out as something she says she can never truly undo. The Oscar-winning actress recently revealed how altering her natural hair decades ago has left her longing for what she once had. And now, she’s sharing heartfelt advice for women with a similar hair texture.

Growing up, Nicole had beautiful, bouncy curls in a stunning strawberry-blond shade. But as she told Australia’s WHO Magazine, she felt pressured to conform to a different ideal. “I wanted to look like the classic Aussie beach girl—tanned skin, long blonde hair,” she confessed. “I was determined to fit that mold, even though it wasn’t who I was.” Unfortunately, after years of straightening and dyeing her hair, Nicole says she can no longer reclaim her original curls. “I wish I could turn back time and bring them back,” she admitted. “I tortured my curls to the point where they’re gone forever. That’s why I always say, ‘Don’t mess with your ringlets!’”

Why Straightening and Dyeing Might Be Worse Than You Think

Dr. Francesca Fresco, a dermatologist specializing in hair health, weighed in on Nicole’s story during an interview with Today. She explained that certain hair treatments can wreak havoc on your mane. “When you’re straightening, bleaching, blow-drying, and flat-ironing your hair, you’re essentially putting it through the ultimate test of destruction,” she said. In extreme cases, chemical treatments can lead to serious issues like inflammation, blisters, and even scarring, which can permanently damage hair follicles and alter the texture of your hair.

However, Dr. Fresco also suggested that hormonal changes might play a role in Nicole’s experience. “As people with curly hair start graying, they often notice their curls become less defined,” she noted. “They might find their hair becomes wavy or straighter over time.” Louisiana-based dermatologist Dr. Nicole Rogers agreed, adding, “While it’s possible that chemical treatments contributed to Nicole’s hair transformation, it’s more likely due to natural aging processes.”

Not All Beauty Decisions Are Permanent

Thankfully, not every beauty choice Nicole made has stuck with her. In 2013, she told Italy’s La Repubblica about another regrettable decision—trying Botox. “It was a mistake,” she admitted. “But I managed to get out of it, and now I can finally move my face again.” Nicole’s candid reflections remind us all that while some choices are irreversible, others give us the chance to learn and grow.
