Let’s give it up for Carson Daly, the brave soul who shared his personal battle with anxiety during an episode of The Today Show. On Friday, March 9, the beloved host opened up about his lifelong struggle with panic attacks, even revealing that sometimes these episodes hit him while he’s live on-air. Talk about courage, right? This isn’t just a job for Carson; it’s a part of his life, and he’s not afraid to let us in on it.
Carson Daly’s journey with anxiety began long before he became the charming host we all know and love. "I was a worrywart kid. I was always worrying," he confessed during the show. His father passed away when Carson was just five years old, and by high school, he was dealing with ulcers. "I’ve been nervous my whole life," he admitted. It’s a powerful reminder that even the most confident people on TV have their own battles to fight behind the scenes.
Fast forward to adulthood, and Carson’s anxiety hasn’t taken a break. "I’ve had heightened anxiety and mild panic attacks at the playground with my own children and wife there," he revealed. Imagine being out enjoying family time, and suddenly, you’re hit with a wave of panic so intense that you have to excuse yourself. It’s not something anyone would wish for, and yet Carson handles it with grace and openness. He explained that the feeling is so gripping and terrifying that it forces him to step away from the moment.

Carson wants to set the record straight: being in the spotlight isn’t the cause of his anxiety. "People think, ‘Oh, he has anxiety. High-pressure life. You know, you’re on television,'" he said, addressing the common misconception. His first on-screen panic attack happened years ago while hosting MTV’s Total Request Live. "I had a hard time breathing. I was terrified for no apparent reason," he recalled. Even today, Carson experiences physical symptoms like tightness in his chest, which he compares to feeling like a saber-tooth tiger is about to attack him. "You feel like you’re dying," he said, painting a vivid picture of what it’s like to live with anxiety.

Even now, Carson still deals with anxiety while working on The Voice and Today. "If you ever watch The Voice live on NBC, watch on a Monday or Tuesday night, I’m never still," he pointed out. "It’s the same thing with the Today Show in the morning. Some days I’m just a little anxious." Despite the challenges, Carson embraces his anxiety as a part of who he is. "I really wear the way I am like a badge of honor. This is who I am and I’m proud of it," he said. And honestly, we’re proud of you too, Carson!
